diy play rhino bonnet hat

We just love imaginative play at our house...especially pretending to be animals! JoJo has always loved learning about and playing with animals. A few years ago, we as a family took a trip to Denver and visited the zoo while we were there. The rhinos (among many others) made quite the impression on us.

We have had such a bizarre winter this year! One day, the weather can be sunny, beautiful, and mild, then the next day, we will get so much snow! Every morning JoJo and I like to look out the window to see what the day will bring. Though every hour can bring something new at our house. We are definitely ready for spring to head our way!

Fun kids Davy Crockett costume cardboard paper bag

I have always had this fascination with Davy Crockett and his story. I think it may have started in the fifth grade when we studied United States History and learned about the exploration and taming of the American frontier. Being from the west, I've always felt a connection to those early explorers.

David (Davy) Crockett was born August 17, 1786, and became a larger-than-life hero during his lifetime being dubbed the "King of the Wild Frontier." His death at the Battle of the Alamo on March 6, 1836 (182 years ago today) added to his legend. In the 1950s Disney repopularized his legend and added the iconic coon-skin cap, which donned the heads of many children during that time.

In our family, we are longtime lovers of all things Pixar. Except for The Good Dinosour...but let's not talk about that. We were so excited when they announced Coco and knew that we would have to see it.  We saw it with fun cousins over the Thanksgiving break. It is such a heartwarming film and left us all a little choked up and in tears. The entire film to the animation to the music is so rich, full of color, and beautifully made. We left the theater so inspired.

fun kids diy make your own faces paper tin magnet

We seem to always be on the go at our house! Always in the car headed somewhere! I wanted something for JoJo to play with in the car or at the doctors office that was quiet and could easily fit into my bag. TADA! A magnetic tin full of eyes, noses, and mouths!

I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring. -DAVID BOWIE

Fun kids ostrich jockey costume cardboard box

I've been really inspired by these amazing children's costumes that Mer Mag creates using cardboard boxes and wanted to put my own twist on them. Have you ever watched the movie Swiss Family Robinson? I can't be certain if I ever actually watched the entire movie as a child. I couldn't tell you the story line or how it ends, but I do have a vague memory of people riding ostriches. Recently, I was in that place in between sleep and wake when my mind shifted to Swiss Family Robinson. I had this fantastic dream about a costume of a jockey riding an ostrich...I had to make it!
